The Ernest Decanter: Capturing the essence of a Legend

With an indomitable spirit and an adventurous soul, Ernest Hemingway — known as “Papa” — sailed the seas aboard his loyal boat, Pilar, his eternal companion on countless journeys. The design of this refined piece was inspired by a vintage photo of Ernest at Finca Vigía. Guided by this idea, Nouvel recreated the Ernest Decanter for Papa’s Pilar, conceived to capture, in both form and essence, the greatness of a free and unbreakable mind.

Designed to preserve an exceptional rum aged for 23 years and finished in Cognac barrel, Ernest is the result of a semi-manual process — the perfect balance between handmade artistry and machine precision. The stopper was created in perfect harmony with the bottle, and each one is individually tested. The decoration is a perfectly sandblasted finish, painted with organic gold.

With only 1,500 bottles released, Ernest is accompanied by an equally exceptional packaging — a wooden box adorned with embossing and gold foil.  It turns it into a masterpiece intended for expert connoisseurs, selling out in just five hours. Celebrated for its superb rum and striking presentation, it quickly captured the attention of discerning enthusiasts around the world.
