Grid Wins the Design Prize Switzerland 2025

Nouvel wins the Design Preis Schweiz 2025 for Grid in the “In Between” Category

A modular system that reimagines material, structure, and light.

Langenthal, Switzerland.

Nouvel has been awarded the prestigious Design Prize Switzerland 2025 for Grid, a groundbreaking modular system of interlocking glass bricks designed by the Nouvel design team and Nicolas Le Moigne. The project was honored in the “In Between” category, which highlights design work that bridges disciplines and redefines functional boundaries.

A New Language in Glass Construction

Grid introduces a modular building system composed of glass bricks featuring intricate bas-reliefs that form cylindrical voids. These voids allow the integration of utilitarian elements such as shelves, hooks, or even hidden light sources. The result is a flexible system that transcends the boundaries of traditional construction — functioning as both architectural structure and design object.

Beyond walls and partitions, Grid offers a foundation for creating furniture and accessories — from tables and candlesticks to luminaires — where transparency and structure interact to shape atmosphere and experience.

Redefining Function, Light, and Space

The Design Prize Switzerland jury commended Grid for its innovative approach to materiality and its capacity to open new perspectives for manipulating light. By merging form, function, and light integration within a single modular element, Grid encourages new typologies of objects and spaces.

For Nouvel, Grid represents the essence of its design philosophy: combining material intelligence with poetic functionality. It demonstrates how design can expand the dialogue between craft and technology, between architecture and object.
